Construction Notes
Set high in West Vancouver’s Canterbury / Chartwell district, The Eaves House occupies a commanding position among the British Properties’ premier estate homes, overlooking Vancouver, Burrard Inlet, and English Bay. Designed by McLeod Bovell Modern Houses, the residence is conceived as a sequence of floating concrete plinths and deep protective eaves, creating a stepped architectural terrain that mediates between hillside, sky, and view.
The home’s spatial strategy produces layered “views behind views” a hallmark of McLeod Bovell’s work—where each room frames not only the primary panorama but secondary, tertiary, and oblique sightlines that unfold as one moves through the residence. These controlled visual corridors create a cinematic experience of the landscape, shifting with daylight, weather, and seasonal atmosphere.
Materially, the house is anchored by robust concrete masses, refined metal detailing, and carefully modulated glazing. The deep eaves regulate solar exposure, soften transitions between interior and exterior, and reinforce the home’s horizontal, landscape-integrated presence. The result is a residence that balances sculptural clarity with environmental responsiveness, delivering both architectural gravitas and experiential subtlety.
